I know we were told in yesterdays lecture to not always think so literally but I've found myself looking at tribes yet again. I think I'm genuinely really intrigued, finding the culture fascinating and have found some incredible images. I NEED TO STOP. I promise I will look into other less literal tribal reflections.
I'm wondering how I can copy these images from flikr as there are some I cannot copy which is a shame as I want to share them with you. I will however link to the flikr page of the photographer. I have started thinking about storyboarding my shoots and I am feeling drawn to the Zulu tribes I had researched previously. I am still uncertain as to which thoughts in my head should go with which shoot; catwalk or editorial but I am feeling the Zulu idea would be more suited to the editorial shoot. My eyes are so excited by the colours used against the ethnic skin in some of these images. I am a HUGE lover of colour anyway so these images of the Zulus' with their accessories against the depth of skin colour is just pure heaven.
Also I Fell in love with this photographers work 'Mario Gerth'
Mumuhuila tribe of Angola
"This stunning girl has typical hair for a Mumuhuila. Even for Africa, the hairstyles are like something I've never come across before. It has a similar amount of preparation put into it like the Himba would with powdered ochre and buttermilk (i.e. they might spend maybe an hour or more each day adding powder and oils to keep its form and almost 'wet' look) but the hair of the Mumuhuila is actually different...because of the colours and it's also hard as a rock. It's actually made of powdered rock mixed with natural oils so it sets hard like concrete. And inside all this the beads are threaded through. Like nothing I've seen before...it's really quite amazing when you set eyes on your first Mumuhuila hairstyle! " - Taken from John Kenny Flikr
The Photographer is John Kenny and his other images are just as exquisite. I love them.
Please take a look at his website.

This has given me an inspiration into the hair design. I want to embrace the looks shown in his images. I am going to start story boarding my catwalk image for the hair photo shoot. I was beginning to think that I was lacking inspiration and was finding it hard to motivate myself and to be creative.
I find that sometimes I just haven't found the right source of inspiration yet and I can't start working and building the designs in my mind until I do. I have to keep working hard researching and soaking up the knowledge and suddenly it springs up on me and then I can't stop myself.
Have you tried using a 'screen grab' to get the images you want from flicr? Look it up.
